Abstract
One of the main risk factors for DM is an unhealthy lifestyle, namely lack of physical
activity. On the other hand, regular physical activity has been shown to have a
positive effect in the prevention and management of diabetes mellitus, especially in
increasing insulin sensitivity and regulating blood glucose levels. This study is a
quantitative study with a Cross-sectional approach, samples were taken using
Purposive sampling, the number of samples was 94 elderly from a total population
of 1672 elderly, the instruments used were questionnaires, observations and
glucometers. Data analysis used the Che-Square test with a significance limit of a
= 0.05. The results showed that respondents who had light physical activity were 57
respondents (60.6%), moderate activity 25 respondents (26.6%), heavy activity 12
respondents (12.8%). Meanwhile, respondents who are included in the DM category
are 63 respondents (67.0%) and not included in the non-DM category are 31
respondents (33.0%). The bivariate results using Che- Square obtained a p-value of
0.002 where the p-value is smaller than a = 0.05, which means that there is a
relationship between Physical Activity and Diabetes Mellitus in the Kalijaga Permai
Health Center Work Area, Cirebon City.
is hoped that the agency will further improve health programs to increase physical
activity in the elderly.
