Abstract

Nurse compliance with medical waste sorting is crucial for the safe management of
healthcare facilities, given the negative risks of untreated waste. At Arjawinangun
Regional Hospital in Cirebon Regency, initial observations revealed suboptimal
hazardous waste management practices, such as overflowing syringe safety boxes.
This situation emphasizes the need for nurse compliance to minimize health and
environmental risks. This study aimed to identify the relationship between nurse
compliance and medical waste sorting at Arjawinangun Regional Hospital.
The method used was a quantitative cross-sectional design. The sample consisted
of 78 nurses, drawn using simple random sampling. Data were collected through
questionnaires and observations, then analyzed univariately and bivariately using
the Chi-Square test.
Univariate results showed that the majority of nurses had good compliance (79.5%)
and good medical waste sorting (78.2%). The bivariate analysis yielded a p-value
of 0.000 ≤ 0.05, indicating a significant relationship between nurse compliance and
medical waste sorting. Compliant nurses tend to sort waste well.
It was concluded that nurse compliance significantly impacts medical waste
sorting. It was concluded that nurse compliance significantly impacts medical
waste sorting. It is recommended that hospitals provide awards or incentives to
nurses who demonstrate outstanding performance and compliance. This can
increase nurse motivation and work morale..
