Abstract

Medical waste is generated from healthcare services and may
contain hazardous substances that pose risks to human health and the
environment. Therefore, proper management of medical waste, particularly
in the segregation stage, is a crucial aspect of preventing crosscontamination and environmental pollution.
This study aims to determine the relationship between motivation
and compliance of healthcare workers in segregating medical waste at
Waled Regional General Hospital, Cirebon Regency. This research used a
quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The population
consisted of 345 nurses in the inpatient wards of RSUD Waled. The sampling
technique used was purposive sampling, resulting in 78 respondents. Data
were collected using a structured questionnaire that had been tested for
validity and reliability. The data were analyzed using the chi-square test to
assess the relationship between motivation and compliance.
The results showed that the majority of healthcare workers had a
high level of motivation, and most demonstrated good compliance in
medical waste segregation. Statistical analysis revealed a significant
relationship between motivation and compliance in medical waste
segregation, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Healthcare workers with
high motivation tended to comply more consistently with waste segregation
procedures compared to those with lower motivation levels.
The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between
motivation and health workers' compliance in medical waste sorting. It is
recommended that health workers continue to maintain and improve their
work motivation, particularly in carrying out medical waste sorting
procedures. High motivation plays a crucial role in fostering compliancexi
with applicable operational standards, thereby minimizing negative
impacts on the environment.
