Abstract
According to the Minister of Health Regulation No. 70 of 2016, industrial waste is
the residue of industrial activities in the form of substances, energy, or other
components that are undesirable and can pollute the environment and endanger
human health. The quality of river water and drinking water is measured
microbiologically based on the presence of indicator bacteria such as E. coli and
Total Coliform, which indicate fecal contamination. This study aims to analyze the
effect of tofu industry waste on the water quality of the Cikeruh River in
Majalengka Regency microbiologically. Tofu waste is known to contain organic
materials and hazardous compounds that can damage aquatic ecosystems. The
method used is an experimental research design by taking water samples at several
points along the river and testing in the laboratory to detect E. coli bacteria. The
results show that tofu waste discharged directly into the river increases the number
of Coliform and E. coli bacteria exceeding the health threshold. Based on .
Statistical tests (chi-square) show a p value = 0.008 < 0.05, which means there is a
significant effect of tofu waste on water quality. Waste treatment is required before
disposal to prevent environmental pollution.
