Abstract
The issue of household waste management is a serious challenge that directly affects
environmental cleanliness and public health. As primary managers of domestic activities,
housewives play a crucial role in this process. This study aims to determine the relationship
between the level of housewives’ knowledge about waste and household waste management
in Kesambi Subdistrict in 2025.
This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. A sample of 97
housewives was proportionally drawn from seven neighborhood units (RW) in Kesambi
Village. The research instrument was a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and
reliability. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank test to determine the
relationship between variables.
The results showed that the majority of respondents had a good level of knowledge, and
most demonstrated good waste management practices. Statistical tests showed a significant
relationship between housewives' knowledge about waste and household waste
management (p-value <0.05).
In conclusion, the better the housewives' knowledge about waste, the better their household
waste management practices. Therefore, continuous education and guidance efforts are
needed to increase awareness and encourage sustainable waste management behavior.
