Abstract

Mothers' knowledge about diarrhea plays a crucial role in preventing and managing
diarrhea in toddlers, thus reducing its incidence. This knowledge encompasses the causes,
symptoms, prevention, and treatment of diarrhea. This study aimed to determine the
relationship between mothers' knowledge and the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in
Winong Village, Winong Community Health Center Working Area, Cirebon Regency. This
study used a cross-sectional quantitative design, with a sample size of 88 mothers with
toddlers, using a proportional random sampling technique. Data were collected using a
questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-square test.
The results showed that mothers with good knowledge mostly did not have toddlers with
diarrhea (63.6%), while mothers with poor knowledge were more likely to have toddlers
with diarrhea. Statistical testing using the Chi-square test produced a p-value of 0.001 ≤
0.05, indicating a significant relationship. It is recommended that the entire community,
especially mothers with toddlers, increase their knowledge about diarrhea to effectively
implement preventive measures.
