Abstract
Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder that requires long-term treatment
to prevent relapse. One important factor in the healing process is patient
compliance in taking medicatin regularly. This study aims to determine the
relationship between medication compliance and relapse rates in schizophrenia
patients at the Psychiatry Clinic of Arjawinangun Hospital, Cirebon Regency. This
study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The total
population consisted of 99 people diagnosed with schizophrenia, and the sample
used was 48 respondents. The sampling technique used the Accidental Sampling
method. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires and observations.
For statistical analysis, the Chi-Square test was used with a
significance level of 0.05.
The results of the study showed that out of 48 respondents, 18 people were
not compliant in taking medication, while 30 respondents were classified as
compliant. There were no respondents in the very compliant or very non-compliant
categories. The results of the Chi-Square analysis showed a p value = 0.00 (<0.05),
which indicated a significant relationship between medication compliance and the
relapse rate of schizophrenia patients at the Psychiatry Polyclinic of Arjawinangun
Hospital, Cirebon Regency. It can be concluded that medication adherence
contributes to high relapse rates. Therefore, increasing patient education and
support is expected to increase compliance and reduce the risk of relapse.
