Abstract
Dementia is a disease in the elderly that manifests as a decline in intellectual abilities.
The world's population is currently in the era of aging population where the number of
people aged over 60 years is more than 7% of the total population (Ministry of Health,
2017). According to the 2019 World Population Prospects, in 2050 it is estimated that 1
in 6 people in the world will be over 65 years old, up from 2019, namely 1 in 11 people.
There are several factors that affect memory loss, one of which is physical activity.
Regular physical activity has been shown to reduce the risk of dementia, including
Alzheimer's disease, by 50%. This study uses an observational analytic research type with
a cross sectional design. The variables observed were the level of dementia in the elderly
and their physical activity. Respondents were then measured using the MMSE (Mini
Mental State Examination) questionnaire instrument. The population in this study were
all elderly living in the work area of the Anjatan Health Center, Indramayu Regency,
consisting of 40 respondents.
The results of the research ethics test were declared "Ethically Eligible" from KEPK
ITEKes Mahardika.
Based on the table above, it can be seen that 10 people (50.0%) have less physical
activity with definite dementia. The results of statistical tests using the chi-square test
show that pvalue = 0.011 (pvalue <0.05), so it can be concluded that there is a
relationship between physical activity and the risk of dementia in the work area of
Anjatan Village, Indramayu Regency.
