Abstract
Health education at the pre-operative stage is not always carried out as it
should be, which gives rise to anxiety in patients, resulting in changes in the
patient's hemodynamics during intra-operation. One factor that can influence
hemodynamics and the success of surgery is patient anxiety. Of the 10 precataract surgery clients aged between 45 and 60 years, 7 (seven) patients looked
anxious, which was seen in a tense face, cold sweaty hands, sensitivity and
irritability. Hemodynamic measurements of 7 patients who experienced anxiety
showed an increase in vital signs. The aim of this research is to determine the
relationship between anxiety and changes in patient hemodynamics during
cataract surgery at Mitra Plumbon Hospital in 2024.
This research is a type of correlational descriptive research with a cross
sectional approach. The population in this study were all cataract surgery
patients treated at Mitra Plumbon Hospital, Cirebon Regency and the total
sample studied was 86 respondents. The research instrument used observation
sheets and questionnaires. The research results were analyzed through univariate
tests and bivariate tests.
Most of the respondents, who were cataract surgery patients, experienced
mild anxiety, namely 63 respondents (73.3%). Most respondents experienced
increased hemodynamic changes, namely 52 respondents (60.5%). Bivariate test
with p value = 0.000 (≤0.05).
The results show that there is a significant relationship between the level of
anxiety and changes in the patient's hemodynamics during cataract surgery.
Suggestions to hospitals and nurses to improve their ability to reduce patient
anxiety, especially when undergoing cataract surgery.
Key words: anxiety, hemodynamic changes, cataract surgery
