Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a disease of high blood sugar levels caused by decreased insulin
production by pancreatic beta cells and insulin resistance. Based on data from Riskesdas
in 2018, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus cases for West Java province was 1,28% and
Cirebon Regency was 0,87% or 3.281 patients. The number of patients with type 2 diabetes
mellitus at the Talun Health Center, Cirebon Regency in 2023 was 302 cases. The purpose
of this study was to determine the relationship between diet and blood sugar levels in
patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the Working Area of the Talun Health Center,
Cirebon Regency.
This study is a quantitative study with a cross sectional approach. The population of type
2 diabetes mellitus patients used amounted to 302 people in 2023. The sample used was 75
respondents. Samples were taken with proportional sampling technique. The instruments
used were a diet questionnaire and an observation sheet for the results of checking blood
sugar levels. Data analysis using spearman rank correlation test with α = 0,05.
The results showed that out of 75 respondents, 26 (34.7%) had a good diet, 13 (17.3%) had
a fairly good diet, and as many as 36 (48.0%) had a poor diet. A total of 38 (50.7%) had
normal blood sugar levels and 37 (49.3%) had high blood sugar levels. The results of the
Spearman rank correlation test obtained a Sig. (2-tailed) of <0,001 which means the value
of Sig. (2-tailed) <0,05, there is a significant, strong, and unidirectional relationship.
The higher the dietary compliance, the lower the blood sugar level. Therefore, patients with
type 2 diabetes mellitus must have dietary compliance in order to help control blood sugar
levels.
