Abstract

The SBAR communication technique is one of the prioritized indicators for the
quality of effective communication for patient safety purposes. Patient safety really
depends on the actions of the medical team in reducing medical errors which can be
prevented by improving effective communication. The aim of this research is to determine
the relationship between nurse motivation and the implementation of SBAR (Situation,
Background, assessment, Recommendation) communication at Arjawinangun Regional
Hospital.
This type of research is correlational analytic with cross sectional. The
population in this study was 128 people who were inpatient nurses. The sampling
technique for this research is purposive sampling. The sample used was 97 respondents
who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. This research instrument uses a
questionnaire. Data analysis used the Spearman rank test.
The results of this study showed that nurses stated good motivation as many as 36
patients (37.1%) and 33 of them had sufficient motivation (34%), and 28 people had
insufficient motivation (28.9%). 64 nurses implemented the SBAR while fulfilling the
requirements (66%) and 33 others did not meet the requirements (34%). The results of
the Spearman rank test with an error value of α=0.05 obtained a significance value of
0.001 so that H1 was accepted, which means there is a relationship between nurse
motivation and the implementation of SBAR (Situation, Background, assessment,
Recommendation) communication at Arjawinangun Regional Hospital with a relationship
level of 0.737, has a positive meaning, meaning that the better the nurse's motivation, the
higher the number of nurses who implement SBAR.
The conclusion of this research is that there is a relationship between nurse
motivation and the implementation of SBAR (Situation, Background, assessment,
Recommendation) in Arjawinangun.
