Abstract
Hypertension is a non-communicable disease with a high prevalence, especially in the
elderly, and is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the world. Efforts to control
blood pressure are not only done pharmacologically, but also through non pharmacological
approaches such as the Fingerhold relaxation technique. This technique is part of Jin Shin
Jyutsu which uses a simple method of grasping fingers while regulating breathing, which
is believed to stimulate energy points to reduce stress and blood pressure. This study aims
to determine the effect of the Fingerhold relaxation technique on lowering blood pressure
in elderly people with hypertension in the working area of Kesambi Health Center, Cirebon
City in 2025. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one group pre-test and post-
test approach. A total of 76 elderly people were selected through purposive sampling
technique and given intervention for three consecutive days, each for 20 minutes. Data
were analyzed using the Paired T-Test test. The results showed a significant decrease in
systolic blood pressure from 164.32 mmHg to 131.22 mmHg and diastolic pressure from
83.38 mmHg to 74.80 mmHg with a p value = 0.001 (p < 0.05). The conclusion of this
study is that the Fingerhold relaxation technique is effective as a complementary therapy
that is safe, simple, and can be done independently in reducing blood pressure in the elderly.
