Abstract
Juvenile delinquency has become a global health issue, ranging from
physical, social, sexual violence, bullying to murder. There is an increase in the
number of juvenile delinquents every year. The prevalence of an increase in
juvenile delinquency in Indonesia from 2018-2021 was 10.7%, which was carried
out by adolescents aged ≤ 18 years. One of the causes of juvenile delinquency is
inappropriate parenting patterns applied to adolescents so as to form negative
adolescent self-character. This study aims to determine the relationship between
parenting patterns and juvenile delinquency in junior high school 1 Sumberjaya
Majalengka District.
This type of research is quantitative using a correlational design with a cross
sectional approach. The population was all adolescent students in grades 7, 8 and 9
who were recorded in the Kosenling Guidance (BK) case report for the last 9
months. Sampling using total sampling as many as 36 respondents. The research
instruments were parenting style questionnaire and juvenile delinquency
questionnaire. Data analysis used spearman rank correlation test with a significant
value of 95% (α = 0.05).
The results showed that almost 16 (44.4%) adolescents received permissive
indulgent parenting and more than 19 (52.8%) adolescents at SMPN 1 Sumberjaya
with high delinquency. In addition, the results of the Spearman rank correlation
statistical test obtained (p-value = 0.000 < α = 0.05) and has a positive direction.
Based on the above results, it can be concluded that there is a significant
relationship between parenting patterns and juvenile delinquency. With a positive
correlation direction, which means that the more appropriate parenting patterns that
parents provide, the lower the delinquency that adolescents do. It is hoped that the
school can carry out a socialization program on appropriate parenting to parents of
students and take a counseling approach to students who have delinquency.
