Abstract
Hyperthermia is a condition where the body temperature is above normal
as a result of an increase in the temperature control center in the hypothalamus.
Improper handling of fever due to inadequate knowledge results in the attitudes and
behaviors of mothers who tend to be excessive. One solution to increasing mothers
knowledge about handling hyperthermia and preventing complications is providing
health education. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of health
education on the level of knowledge of mothers about giving warm compresses to
pediatric patients with hyperthermia in the Children's Room of Mitra Plumbon
Hospital, Cirebon.
Types of research using quasi-experiments with the design of one group pre-
test post-test. The population in this study were mothers of children with
hyperthermia in the Children's Room of Mitra Plumbon Hospital Cirebon, and the
sampling technique used was a purposive sampling method of 40 people. Retrieval
of data using a questionnaire Data analysis was performed using univariate
analysis with percentages and bivariate analysis with the Wilcoxon test.
The results showed that the results of the pretest showed that most of the
respondents (60%) had insufficient knowledge, and the results of the posttest
showed that the majority of respondents (62.5%) had sufficient knowledge. The
results of the Wilcoxon statistical test obtained a value of 0.000 <α (0.05),
indicating that Ha is accepted, meaning that there is an effect of health education
on the level of mothers knowledge about giving warm compresses to pediatric
patients with hyperthermia in the Children's Room of Mitra Plumbon Hospital
Cirebon.
It is hoped that nurses can provide good and correct education on giving
warm compresses to pediatric patients with hyperthermia.
