Abstract
The neonatorum jaundice in newborns is a problem that often appears in
neonates. About 25% -50% of newborns suffer from jaundice in the first week of
their lives. Jaundice neonatorum or jaundice is a disease caused by high levels of
bilirubin in the blood, causing a newborn yellow in the skin and in the white part
of the eye. Mother's milk (ASI) is the most perfect source of food for infants because
it contains various nutrients and antibodies that are important for the growth and
development of infants. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship
of breastfeeding with the incidence of jaundice neonatorum in infants in the
perinatology room of the Plumbon Mitra Hospital Cirebon.
The type of research is quantitative research with descriptive correlational
research design with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study was
a newborn baby in the perinatology room of the Mitra Plumbon Hospital Cirebon
and sampling techniques using the 91 people purposive sampling method. Data
collection using a questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using univariate
analysis with a bivariate percentage and analysis with the Chi Square (χ2) test.
The results showed that most of the respondents (70.3%) gave good milk
and most of the respondents (86.8%) had neonatal jaundice. Chi square statistical
test results (χ2) obtained ρ value (0,020) <α (0.05) shows that ha is accepted
meaning there is a relationship between breastfeeding and the incidence of
neonatorum jaundice in infants in the perinatology room of the Mitra Plumbon
Hospital Cirebon (ρ = 020, α = 0.05).
It is hoped that nurses can provide education about the importance of
providing milk to newborns who experience jaundice neonatorum, despite jaundice
in the first week of life.
