Abstract

Phlebitis can occur, one of which is caused by the length of time the infusion is properly
replaced with an infusion set, which is 72 hours. Based on a preliminary survey
conducted by researchers through interviews with the Infection Prevention and Control
Team (PPI) at Arjawinangun Hospital, Cirebon Regency, the number of patients who had
infusions installed from July to December 2022 was 1710 patients with an average
monthly rate of 285 people, and the number of patients who experienced phlebitis was 43
people or around (6.6%) with an average monthly Leght of Stay (LOS) of three days. The
purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a relationship between the
duration of infusion and the incidence of phlebitis. This type of research is analytic
observational using cross sectional method with stratified random sampling. The number
of samples was 43 patients. The measuring tool used in this study was an observation
sheet for the duration of infusion based on the Visual Infusion Phlebitis Score. Data
analysis in this study was univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square
test.
The results of the research ethics test were declared "Ethically Eligible" from KEPK
ITEKes Mahardika.
Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that of the 39 people (90.7%) who had
abocath for ≤ 3 days, 38 people (88.4%) did not experience phlebitis and 1 person (2.3%)
had phlebitis, while 4 people (9.3%) had abocath for > 3 days, 1 person (2.3%) did not

experience phlebitis and 3 people (7.0%) experienced phlebitis. As well as obtained a p-
value <0.05, namely 0.001. This shows that there is a relationship between the length of

days of intravenous abocath insertion and the incidence of phlebitis in adult patients at
Arjawinangun Hospital in 2023. The results of this study are recommended for patients to
reduce mobilization of the area where the infusion was punctured, nurses carry out
infusion according to Standard Operating Procedures and replace abocath for a
maximum of 72 hours .
