Abstract

Febrile seizures are an emergency condition that requires quick and appropriate help.
Good handling is expected to minimize the impact caused by febrile seizures. In 2023, there
were 622 inpatients diagnosed with febrile seizures at Mitra Plumbon Hospital. The
purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge and
the handling of febrile seizures in children at Mitra Plumbon Hospital.
This study is a descriptive correlational study with a cross-sectional approach. The sample
of this study was mothers with children who experienced febrile seizures in the regular
inpatient room of Mitra Plumbon Hospital, totaling 42 respondents using the NonProbability sampling technique with an instrument in the form of a questionnaire. Data
analysis used the Spearman rank test.
The results of the univariate analysis showed that less than half of the respondents had
knowledge about febrile seizures in the good category (45.2%) and less than half of the
respondents (47.6%) were able to handle febrile seizures in the right category. The results
of the bivariate analysis test showed that there was a significant relationship, sufficient
strength and had a positive direction between maternal knowledge and the handling of
febrile seizures in children in the inpatient room {p-value: 0.000, α: 0.01, R: 0.567}.
The better the mother's knowledge about handling febrile seizures, the more appropriate
the handling of febrile seizures carried out by the mother in children at home. Hospitals
can provide ongoing education programs on handling febrile seizures for all mothers,
especially for mothers with children who have a history of febrile seizures.
