Abstract

Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is a form of tuberculosis that is resistant to
at least two of the most potent anti-tuberculosis drugs, namely Isoniazid (INH) and
Rifampicin. MDR-TB can have a negative impact on mental health, such as causing
depression. Depression is a mental health condition characterized by persistent feelings
of sadness and a loss of interest in previously enjoyable activities. The aim of this study is
to identify the determining factors of depression among patients with Multidrug-Resistant
Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) at Waled Regional General Hospital, Cirebon.
This study used a quantitative approach. The population consisted of 28 patients
diagnosed with MDR-TB at Waled Regional General Hospital. The sampling technique
used in this study was total sampling. The data were analyzed using univariate analysis
and bivariate analysis with multiple linear regression.
It was found that 6 respondents (21.4%) had comorbid Diabetes Mellitus (DM), 1
respondent (3.6%) had HIV/AIDS, and 21 respondents (75%) had no other comorbidities.
The chi-square statistical analysis yielded a significant result with a p-value = 0.000 < α
= 0.005..
There is a relationship between comorbid diseases and the incidence of depression in
MDR-TB patients at Waled Regional General Hospital. comorbid diseases is the most
dominant factor contributing to depression in MDR-TB patients at the hospital.
