Abstract
Hernia Nucleus Pulposus or commonly called HNP, which is known to the public
as a pinched nerve, is a disorder caused by protruding or melting (hernia) of the
lining or bearing surface of the spinal column (nucleus pulposus) from the space
between the vertebrae, causing acute pain in the lower back, chronic pain or
recurring pain. So this health problem can often affect the level of physical activity
in HNP patients. This study aims to determine the relationship between the degree
of pain and the level of physical activity in HNP patients in outpatient care at Mitra
Plumbon Cirebon Hospital.
This research uses an observational analytical design with a cross sectional
approach. The sampling technique used accidental sampling at the Mitra Plumbon
Cirebon Hospital Neurology Polyclinic with a sample size of 69 respondents. The
instruments used in this research were the Numerical Rating Scales (NRS)
questionnaire and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ).
The results showed that most respondents had severe pain 38 respondents (55,1%),
and the majority had low physical activity 40 respondents (58%). The results of
statistical tests with Chi Square showed p value = 0,010 < α = 0,05, which means
there is a relationship between the degree of pain and the level of physical activity
in HNP patients in outpatient care of Mitra Plumbon Cirebon Hospital.
The degree of pain was significantly correlated with the level of physical activity in
HNP patients. Advice for HNP patients is to continue doing physical activities as
usual and according to ability, but they are not allowed to do heavy activities, for
example lifting heavy loads.
