Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most common causes of morbidity and mortality in the world. The prevalence of hypertension sufferers in Indonesia reaches 31,7% at the age of over 18 years. Hypertension is also the 3rd cause of death after stroke and pulmonary tuberculosis, the number reaches 6,8% of the proportionof of causes of deaths in Indonesia. This study aims to determine Corelation Between Demographic Characteristics And Blood Pressure in Patients at the Pabedilan Health Center Cirebon Regency.
This type of research uses a descriptive correlational design with a cross sectional approach. The population is an outpatient who visits the Pabedilan Community Health Center, Cirebon Regency, totaling 793 respondents. Sampling using purposive random sampling of 89 respondents. The instrument used were demographic characteristics forms and blood pressure measurement forms with a sphygnomanometer and stethoscope. Data analysis used the Chi-square and Spearman Rank statistical test with a significant value of 90% (α 0.1).
The results of the research show that less than 44 (49,4%) respondents have middle adulthood, the majority of 62 (69,7%) respondents are female, less than 44 (49,4%) respondents have basic education and less than 42 (47,2%) respondents do not work/are domestic workers. The results of the spearman rank correlation test obtained r < 1 and had a positive direction, meaning that age had a moderated and positive relationship with blood pressure. Apart from that, the results of the chi-square statistical test show that gender with blood pressure (p value = 0,004 < α 0,1), education with blood pressure (p value = 0,013 < α 0,1), work with blood pressure (p value = 0,008 < α 0,1).
Based on the results above, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between age, gender, education and occupation demography characteristics with blood pressure. It is recommended to avoid the risk of hypertension to change an unhealthy lifestyle to a healthy one.
