Abstract

Postoperative nausea and vomiting is postoperative nausea and or vomiting that
occurs after surgery. The length of surgery can increase the risk of nausea and
vomiting because patients cannot position themselves due to anesthesia and
neuromuscular blockade occurs. This study aims to determine the relationship
between the length of surgery and the incidence of postoperative nausea and
vomiting after spinal anesthesia in patients in the Operating Room of
Pamenungpeuk Hospital, Garut Regency.
This research method is quantitative research with descriptive correlational design
using cross sectional approach. The sampling technique was total sampling as
many as 34 patients. Data were collected by looking at medical records and direct
interviews with patients. Data were collected by looking at medical records and
direct interviews with patients.
The results showed that almost all respondents underwent surgery for > 60 minutes,
namely 24 people (70.6%) and experienced the incidence of postoperative nausea
and vomiting, namely 24 people (70.6%). The results of the Fishers Exact statistical
test obtained a p value of 0.034. There is a relationship between the length of
surgery and the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting with spinal
anesthesia in patients in the operating room of the Pamenungpeuk Hospital.
Recommendations for the hospital to pay more attention to patients who are at risk
of postoperative nausea and vomiting so that more serious complications do not
occur which can endanger the patient.
Keywords: Incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting, length of surgery,
