Abstract

Stunting is a condition of growth failure in infants and toddlers due to chronic malnutrition,
especially in the first 1,000 days of life (HPK), resulting in children being too short for
their age. WHO estimates the number of stunting cases worldwide at 22 percent or 149.2
million people in 2020, the national stunting rate is 24.4% and West Java 20.2%. This
study aims to provide an overview of the relationship between maternal parenting patterns
and socioeconomic conditions with the incidence of stunting in the working area of the
Salagedang Community Health Center, Majalengka Regency. This study is a quantitative
study with a descriptive correlation research design with a cross-sectional approach. The
population in this study were all toddlers in the working area of the Salagedang Community
Health Center in 2025, totaling 1082 toddlers. The sample size in this study was 92 toddlers
at the Salagedang Community Health Center in 2025. The sampling technique used in this
study was simple random sampling. Data were obtained using a questionnaire which was
then analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis. The results of the data analysis
concluded that: based on the level of education, most mothers of toddlers have junior high
school education (30.4%), less than half work as housewives (28.3%), the highest income
is Rp. 1 - 2 million per month (30.4%). Home ownership is the most, 55.4% own a house.
And the number of family dependents is the most, 1-2 people (43.5%). Most toddlers get
good parenting (65.2%). Most toddlers are toddlers from adequate family socio-economic
conditions (80.4%). Most toddlers in the Salagedang Health Center work area have
stunting in the normal category (85.9%). There is a relationship between maternal
parenting patterns and the incidence of stunting, p-value 0.000 <0.05. There is a
relationship between socio-economic conditions and the incidence of stunting, p-value
0.000 <0.05. This research is expected to improve education on good parenting practices
and supplementary feeding to meet toddler nutritional needs. Future research is expected
to expand the research literature by examining other factors related to stunting.
