Abstract
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that a quarter of the world's
population is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pulmonary TB is an airborne
infectious disease. Families are close contacts, meaning that if they are unaware of
masks and TB, and do not use them correctly, the risk of infection is very high. Masks are
used by TB patients and those around them as an effort to prevent TB transmission. A
preliminary study conducted in June 2025 by interviewing ten family members of patients
in the Jatayu Isolation Room at Cideres Regional Hospital regarding their knowledge of
TB, revealed that six family members did not wear masks when interacting with nurses
and patients. This study aims to determine the relationship between TB knowledge and
patient family compliance with proper mask use in the isolation room.
The study used a descriptive correlational study with a cross-sectional approach
to determine the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. Data
were collected using a questionnaire. The sampling technique used in this study was total
sampling. The sample size was 30 respondents. The analysis used univariate and
bivariate analyses.
The results of the study showed that knowledge of pulmonary TB was categorized
as Fair (70%) and Good (30%), while patient families' compliance with correct mask use
was categorized as Fair (90%) and Compliant (10%). The Spearman rank test showed a
p-value of 0.899, indicating a relationship between knowledge of pulmonary TB and
compliance with correct mask use in isolation rooms.
Future research is expected to further identify the relationship between
knowledge of pulmonary TB and compliance with correct mask use using other research
methods.
