Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major health problem in Indonesia, with a reported 713,783 patients. One of the main challenges in managing this disease is patient non-compliance with fluid intake restrictions, which is often influenced by low self-efficacy or patients' confidence in managing their health behaviors. This study aimed to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and compliance with fluid intake dietary restrictions in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis at Mitra Plumbon Hospital Cirebon in 2025. This research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of all patients undergoing hemodialysis at the hemodialysis Unit of Mitra Plumbon Hospital Cirebon in March 2025, totaling 80 individuals. The sample was selected using purposive sampling, with a total 44 respondents. The instruments used were questionnaires to measure self-efficacy and fluid intake diet compliance. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-square test. The results showed that most respondents had high self-effficacy (63.6%) and 43.2% were compliant with their fluid intake diet. The Chi-Square test revealed a significant relationship between self-efficacy and fluid intake diet compliance (p=0.0002, p < 0.05). The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and fluid intake diet compliance. Health workers are advised to enhance educational approaches to strengthen patient self-efficacy through continuous counseling.
