Abstract

Preterm birth is still a problem in Indonesia. The prevalence of premature births
according to WHO in 2023 has increased ranging from 4-16% of births. The purpose of
this study was to determine the relationship between maternal mood and maternal infant
bonding during post partum in mothers who have premature babies.
The type of research is quantitative with a descriptive correlational design with a
cross sectional approach. The population of mothers who gave birth to premature babies
at Gunung Jati Regional Hospital, Cirebon City was 472 in 2023. In this study, 25 samples
were obtained using accidental sampling. A total of 25 mothers who gave birth to
premature babies will be given the Edinburhg Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS)
instrument from Cox, J.L and the Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire (PBQ) instrument
from Brockington. The analysis test used in this study is Spearman rank.
The results of this study showed that almost half (44.0%) of respondents
experienced mood disorders in the moderate category and most (60.0%) respondents
performed maternal infant bonding in the good category. The results of the Spearman rank
test obtained a significant relationship, including in the strong and positive direction
category between mood and maternal infant bonding in mothers who have premature
babies p value = 0.000 < ɑ.
It is expected that nurses can facilitate counseling and increase visiting hours for
mothers to bond with their babies.
