Abstract
Schizophrenia is a persistent and serious brain disease that causes
psychotic behavior, concrete thinking, and difficulties in processing information,
interpersonal relationships, and solving problems. Mental disorders are one of the
public health problems in Indonesia. In general, mental disorders are caused by
psychological pressure both from outside the individual and from within the
individual. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between
the role of the family and medication adherence in schizophrenia patients at the
Arjawinangun Regional Hospital, Cirebon Regency. This research method is an
analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study
were all families with schizophrenia patients at the Arjawinangun Regional
Hospital, Cirebon Regency with a total of 76 respondents using a proportional
random sampling technique. The sample was 30 independent variables in this
study, the role of the family and the dependent variable was medication adherence
in schizophrenia patients. Statistical tests using the Somar's D Test.
The results of this study indicate that the role of the family is mostly good,
amounting to 15 respondents (50%) and most respondents are compliant with
taking medication, namely 15 respondents (50%), and the results of the Somer's D
test are p value 0.428 <ɑ 0.05 so that Ho is accepted and Ha is rejected, meaning
there is no significant relationship between the role of the family and compliance
with taking medication in schizophrenia patients. The family has an important
role in caring for family members with schizophrenia, especially for those who are
compliant in taking medication.
